Thyagaraja, Appa Rama Bhakti — raga Kapi, Adi tala

కపి వారిధి దాటునా కలికి రోత గటునా | అపరాధి త్యాగరాజుకానందము హెచ్చునా?
Does Hanuman crossing the ocean, causing even Kali yuga souls to weep with devotion, increase the bliss of this offender Tyagaraja?
“Appa Rama Bhakti” (ఆప్ప రామ భక్తి) is a Thyagaraja kirtana in raga Kapi, Adi tala. The kriti meditates on the power of Rama bhakti — asking whether hearing of Rama’s glories (Sita’s purity, Hanuman’s devotion, Bharata’s love) kindles true devotion in the listener’s heart. The closing line of the pallavi singles out Hanuman’s ocean crossing as an image powerful enough to move even the souls of Kali yuga to tears, and Thyagaraja humbly frames himself as an unworthy offender (aparādhi) whose bliss is nevertheless increased by it.
